Reading:

This week, students will have an opportunity to share his/her time capusle with the class on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please watch for a permission slip coming home on Monday that will explain our movie extension that will happen on Thursday. Students will only be allowed to participate if a permission slip is brought in signed.

Math:

This week, we are beginning chapter 12, (angles). We will learn the important rules to finding unknown angles this week, such as the sum of all angles on a line and the sum of anlges meeting at a point. Students are always allowed to use notes during tests. Please encourage your child to bring home his/her spiral each night to practice using notes on homework each night.

Parents, please note that your child now has important log-in information for Singapore Math in Focus Online Resources stapled into the front of his/her planner (a bright pink paper).  You are welcome to access these tools anytime from home.  We think they will prove useful throughout the year.

Singapore Math in Focus sets the mastery level at 80% for all assessments. On the assessments, students will see what the curriculum calls “novel questions.” These questions take the concepts that the students have learned in class and presents them in a new and unique way. This is to encourage higher-order thinking and problem solving skills. If a student scores an 80% on an assessment, they have fully mastered the unit and have met the expectations.

Science

This week we will be starting a unit on life cycles. Studnets will learn the important vocabulary involved as well as being introduced to our unit project. Students will have one work day in class to work on this project and the rest must be done at home. It will be due on May 2nd. The expectation sheet is linked here

Language Arts

This week we are continuing our unit over informational text. Students will be learning and practicing author's purpose as well finding supporting details from a descriptive paragraph.
