The School Accountability Committee (SAC) has put together this AVA Parent Survival Guide to highlight some of the helpful resources that are available to you on the AVA website.
Aspen View Academy Website
If you haven't already, please spend a few minutes exploring AVA's main website at www.aspenviewacademy.org. The website is user friendly and contains the answer to almost any question you have wanted to ask. There is an abundance of information ranging from AVA's mission statement to how to add money to your student's lunch account. Be sure to check out the Event Calendar to keep up to date on all upcoming events.
From AVA's main website, you can easily access your child’s homeroom or skills group classroom website. Click on the "Parent Resources" tab and scroll down to your child’s grade and then their teacher’s name. Clicking on the teacher’s name will enable you to view weekly assignments, spelling words, the CAMP schedule, and any upcoming classroom volunteer opportunities. There is also a "Website Update Scanner" which allows you to subscribe to your teacher’s RSS feed and will notify you of any changes the teacher makes to their website during the week. The Website Update Scanner is found by going to AVA's main website, click on "Parent Resources" and scroll down to "Website Update Scanner." There, a detailed tutorial will walk you through the process of subscribing to a RSS feed.
Teacher email addresses can be found on their classroom webpage in the upper left hand corner right under their name. Do not try to email teachers from Infinite Campus. The default address included on IC is a dcsdk12.org address. AVA teachers do not check this address. They do check their @aspenviewacademy.org address and will respond within 48 hours.
Infinite Campus Parent Portal
The Parent portal is another invaluable resource to you. It can be accessed directly from the main AVA website via the link on the right hand side of the page. Please click here for information on setting up your account. The Parent Portal will allow you to access your child's grades, attendance records, assignments due, view and update your contact preferences, and communications from the school.
Parent Resource Workshops
We believe that AVA students benefit from strong partnerships with families and our school. At each one of these Parent Resource Workshops, an expert staff member facilitates a brief workshop to inform, train, and empower families in their work supporting student growth at home which is aligned to AVA’s values, philosophy, and strategic approach. Every month, there is at least one parent resource workshop. A schedule of the workshop dates and topics can be found by clicking on the "Parent Resources" tab and then scrolling down to Family Resource Workshops Parents will receive 1 hour of volunteer hours for attending a workshop.
Each week, AVA publishes a school-wide newsletter that has timely information of current and upcoming school events, volunteer opportunities, an administrative address, and lots of other announcements each week that will keep you up to date and plugged into to all of the happenings at AVA. Please make sure you are spending a few minutes each week reviewing the information in those newsletters. Newsletters can be accessed directly from the link we send to your primary email account each week, or by clicking on the "Parent Resources" tab and scrolling down to Newsletters You can see all past Newsletters there as well.
AVA values trust-building, proactive communication, and a solution-oriented focus. The Communication Pathways flowchart exists as a user-friendly visual to promote unity, clarity, and quality in communication. It provides the framework for working toward the resolution of a concern in a positive way that promotes trust, solutions, and growth. You can access the Communication Pathways flowchart by clicking on the "Parent Resources" tab and scrolling down to "Communication Pathways." Selecting "Click to view a printable version" will give you a magnified version that can be easily read.
