At Aspen View Academy we strive for continuous improvement. As such, we occasionally evaluate our current curriculum to ensure we are providing the best education to our students. This year, the K-5 teachers and admin evaluated our reading program, and the 6-8 teachers and admin evaluated our middle school math program. I am happy to share that AVA has officially adopted Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) as our K-5 reading curriculum and Into Math as our Middle school math curriculum. Both will be effective starting the 2024-2025 school year.

Program Overview of CKLA
Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is the leading early literacy curriculum grounded in the Science of Reading. By combining knowledge-building and research-based foundational skills, CKLA guides educators in developing strong readers, writers, and thinkers. CKLA is a language arts program that combines a multi-sensory approach to phonics with rich texts carefully sequenced to build content knowledge—so that students learn to read - and read to learn at the same time.

Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is a comprehensive, kindergarten through fifth grade program for teaching reading, writing, listening, and speaking while also building students' vocabulary and knowledge across essential domains in literature, global and American History, and the sciences. In the early grades, CKLA focuses on oral language development through carefully sequenced read-alouds as well as systematic instruction in reading and writing skills. In later grades, CKLA continues to advance students' knowledge and vocabulary through read-alouds and in-depth discussions while also immersing students in complex texts and advanced writing assignments that draw on the academic content they've been engaged in since preschool.

Program overview of Into Math
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the publishers of Saxon Math, discontinued Saxon Math forcing schools to transition to another math curriculum.

Into Math is designed to engage and empower students, it aligns seamlessly with the dynamic and inquiry-driven learning. With a focus on critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world applications, Into Math equips students with the mathematical skills and mindset they need to excel in math. This comprehensive curriculum not only supports academic achievement but also encourages students to explore, innovate, and connect mathematical concepts to their project work, fostering a deeper understanding of mathematics and its practical applications.

Into Math is focused on meeting the needs of the whole child, inspiring students to see themselves as doers of mathematics and instilling a positive attitude toward math.
