Meet Mrs. Gentille
Mrs. Gentille is honored to be a Literacy Specialist at Aspen View Academy, where students, character, and learning are always the focus. Mrs. Gentille began her journey as an educator by earning a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She then went on to teach Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten in private and public schools in Chicago, Illinois for about seven years. During this time she also earned her M.A. in Reading Education, which is what allowed her to accept her dream job as a Literacy Specialist at Aspen View Academy in 2013. Mrs. Gentille enjoys spending her after-school hours with her daughters and husband, trying new recipes in her kitchen and going for runs near her home in Lakewood. On the weekends she enjoys hiking with her family and exploring beautiful Colorado. Mrs. Gentille is greatly looking forward to helping the students at AVA develop their reading skills this year, to become confident, joyful readers.
Classroom Philosophy
Mrs. Gentille strongly believes that every child deserves to be, and is capable of becoming, a successful reader. Her goal is to meet students where they are, with strategies that help them unlock the reading process. She strives to create a welcoming, safe environment where students feel comfortable taking risks in order to reach new levels of learning. She believes that students should be taught to take ownership over their own learning. Her interactive, multi-sensory reading lessons focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and comprehension skills. They engage students with content in a systematic way, and gradually students begin to utilize these skills independently. Mrs. Gentille also believes that supporting a young person on their reading journey should be a team effort, and she seeks out collaboration with parents and teachers to help students grow in their abilities and love of reading.
